Alain Byamungu
Born in Belgium, while his father, professor Byamungu Nakahazi Alphonse was pursuing his Doctorate, Alain went back to his home city of Bukavu, South Kivu, D.R. Congo with his parents when he was about eight months old. He studied primary and secondary school at the local Alfajiri Jesuit High School. He then pursued his university studies in Energy Engineering at the Polytechnical University of Tunis. After a brief return to DRC, Alain went to South Africa where he completed his Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.
Alain participated in the Young African Leadership Initiative Cohort 30, Business and Entrepreneurship section (2019 edition), an annual event initiated by U.S. President Barack Obama to empower young African leaders to positively impact their communities. Alain worked as a Technical Director for the first and only solar mini grid company in DR Congo, helping design, build and operate Megawatt sized projects in Eastern DR Congo. He is the Chief Executive Officer and shareholder of Congo Engineering & Infrastructure, LLC (CEI).
